Around the shop today
We are no longer building saddle trees, but we have two videos about how Western saddles fit horses available on our westernsaddlefit.com website.
Yup, we’re still working around the shop. Just haven’t been taking the time to post pictures lately.
Things are looking a bit emptier now that we have gotten through the backlog and Rod is able to cut down the number of trees he builds. Nope, his hands aren’t any better. Yup, they are still bothering him. Yup, he is still building anyway, albeit at the slower rate, which is good.
So now instead of four in a batch, I am marking out two in a batch. Looks emptier under there...
And I still set up the stainless steel nails for Rod when he rawhides trees. Rawhiding is definitely the hardest thing on his hands. He’s only rawhiding one in a day now whereas he used to do two. It just hurts too much to do two.
And, since the seasons are changing and the weather is getting colder, we are going to have to change back from venting our dust collector outside to running the air through the filters. This thing can change out the entire air in our shop in three minutes. Not a good thing when it is below freezing. And we have to remember to always have a window open or it sucks air backwards through the furnace and hot water vents (carbon monoxide poisoning, anyone?) and through the wood stove. That one we notice faster as the smoke fills up the shop. (Not that I know this from experience, mind you…)
So today the filters were hauled out of the cyclone room and vacuumed out, ready for the winter. But I wasn’t ready with the camera, so you just get a boring picture of a box. The wild times at the Nikkels continue…
Oh, and we had an extra tree for sale - but it sold...
